Gabon once again banned road timber transportation on weekends and public holidays.

According to the Ministry of Transport of Gabon, the impairment granted to road log carriers to operate on weekends and public holidays has been suspended. August Roger Bibaye Itandas, Minister of Communications, announced in a note dated June 29, 2023 that "the new impairment has also been suspended". The Minister of Communications recalled that the decree and regulations of May 29th, 2002 prohibiting the circulation of these heavy goods vehicles on weekends and public holidays, and related sanctions "are still fully applicable". According to the order, any logging vehicle that violates the provisions of this decision will be fined 500,000 to 1 million CFA francs at one time, and the security forces or road traffic controllers will immediately fix the vehicle. The owner or his agent will also be fined 500,000 to 1 million CFA francs. "The services of the Road Control Brigade of the Ministry of Communications and the national defense and security forces are responsible for ensuring strict compliance with this measure," said the Minister of Communications.

Government members did not explain the reasons for suspending these impairments. But in 2002, this measure was taken for the sake of road safety, because these heavy trucks often caused several accidents on the road.
